The Quantum of Solace

In theaters today.

Here's my teeny toy tribute
to Bond, James, Bond.

Is it just me, or does Quantum of Solace sound more like the name of a Sarah McLachlan album rather than a James Bond movie? The title just sounds like some random words strung together. The Continuum of Pretension. See? I can do it, too!

Here are some other names I think might work better for the new 007 movie:

The Platitude of Ontonomy
The Resplendence of Synergy
The Velocity of Ambivalence
The Elegy of Bombast
The Paradigm of Reverie
The House of Pancakes
The Best of Foreigner
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Bourne Identity 4

Comic-Con Day 2: Nation's IT Guys Go Missing for Second Day Straight

It's Day 2 of Comic-Con 2008, and it's even more crowded with attendees and more of them are wearing costumes. The most popular outfit is probably the Joker. Second most popular outfit? Is "awkward social retard who smells like Doritos" an outfit? Oh, I kid cuz geeks are the new cool and, besides, nerds actually smell more like Corn Nuts.

Here's the photo roundup from Friday's festivities...

Gangsta Babies! Quite possibly the best toy shown at Comic-Con. Let's just say some blood has been spilled in the Cabbage Patch, yo.

New Star Wars Galactic Heroes toys that are Christmas-themed!!! Seriously. I particularly like the gifts skewered on the lightsaber kabobs.

This Indiana Jones is made entirely out of LEGO blocks. Meanwhile, the latest Indiana Jones movie was made entirely out of crap.

It's like the toymakers are reading my mind!

Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro promoting their upcoming film, The Wolfman. I can't believe he showed up in costume. No, wait.

A new doll of Gizmo from Gremlins.

A hand-painted custom van designed by Tokidoki for Hot Wheels.

Samuel L. Jackson takes a stand. I'm not sure what his mic is doing down there, though. That's comic artist Frank Miller on the left, who's directing Sam in The Spirit, which opens this Christmas.

Sam Jackson and Jaime King promoting Will Eisner's The Spirit.

New G.I. Joe toys from Hasbro.

The new James Bond car from the upcoming 007 movie, Quantum of Solace. Yeah, I have no idea what that title means, either.

Not quite as cool as the 007 car, but the Nerd Herd from TV's Chuck would probably know what the "Quantum of Solace" means.

License to Ill

So you may or may not have known that there's a new James Bond. I know, you're probably wondering what was wrong with the old one, but apparently Pierce Brosnan looks a little too aged (we're supposed to forget that Roger Moore played the role quite solidly until he was like 112). So what did the producers do? They cast The Mummy.

Seriously, while I'm sure that Daniel Craig is a fine actor, to call him "youthful" or "attractive" would be a stretch. That wouldn't be such a big deal except for the fact that he's supposed to be James frickin' Bond not Count Dracula. Oh, and did I mention that this is an origin story? If this is a young, spry James Bond at the beginning of his Double-0 career, what precisely will he look like as the veteran agent we've come to know and love? My guess is it'll take a few well-shaken (not stirred), vodka martinis before anyone will be able to recognize our favorite British Secret Agent.
